Hi nook
I did try that, I even took it to the car and plugged it in there as an alternative PSU, but to still no avail.
Weird that it will work as a slave to my squeezeplug server but not as a standalone access point. It will also work perfectly with the M2P connected directly to the router/lan.
Even more weird, it’s exactly the same for all the 4 Pi’s, dongles etc etc I have used, I guess this is why you mentioned the PSU as that as far as you were aware was the only none variable in all of this.
Maybe it’s what sequence I install the plugin’s. But I have done so many variations on this and its still not working. It just won’nt work as an standalone access point, the server, player, wifi, all fine (you’ve helped me prove that) just no access point.
The other thing is, the forum is still young, so I guess if this had been active as and long as the Pi sites there would have been others that would have experianced the same as this, and this would have been sotred a long time ago. I just hope I do get this working, for the sake of people like you who have been kind enough to help, for me and others who might come after this with the same issues.
But I am so desperate to find out why I can’t do it. I have an old (very old) vortexbox, that was set up, no problem, then upgraded to the squezeplug, again no problem, but my lord, M2P, wow I can’t say its been a pain, but as you once said, it’s a learning curve, and this has been a great leaning curve.
Tell you what I do miss about the vortexbox, Vortexbox had a ripper (to flac) where you could feed in your personal Cd’s onto it, would be great to get a facilty like this onto M2P, unless there is an „easy“ or simple way to transfer your CD’s to flac, which is what I use.
Anyhow, big thanks again for sticking with me noop, I hope I do crack this and when I do I will for sure post the answer here on the forum because after all thats exactly what its for.
Thanks Noop

5. Januar 2016 at 23:41 #17587Hi noop
My edimax arrived today and I plugged it in and to my horror it did excatly the same as before I put it in, which is not worked
So here we go again, I reformatted the SD card,**** and rebuilt M2P, still didn’t work….
So 3.5 months later, and well over 300 hours, 4 raspberry Pi, several new images, 4 dongles, God knows how many times I have reformatted my SD, a huge amount of stress and sheer frustration, considering I can now get all the plug’ins installed in less than 30 mins, I’ve had it I think
I have to thank you and the other guys on the forum who have tried to help, but I just don’t know what to do next, I think I have still got the will to carry on, I just don’t know how
Well I’m going to do one more last thing, I am going to write out Exactly , from start to Finnish step by step
What I’m doing , then I will send that to Max at M2P with a hope he can see something that Im doing wrongI just has to be the driver, thats me!!!
I have to be missing a step, a stage, not activating something , I must be
Ah well. Thanks for your time nook, if I ever get this sorted I’ll put this on the forum, even if it’s my driving as I wouldn’t want anyone to go through as much hassle as I have trying to get this m2p working as a stand alone accesspoint & server
Thanks again Nook, but if anyone or you nook has any further suggestions I really really would appreciate if you could let me know as I’m sure I’ll find the will to give it a try
4. Januar 2016 at 20:25 #17576Hi Noop
Just to let you know that I ran the dmesg command and there was a lot of scrolling which I couldn’t stop nor raise the cursor up the list to look what it all read
That said, even if I could look at the whole script, I wouldn’t have a clue what I was looking at..
But fingers crossed, the other dongle should be here tomorrow or Wednesday
But if there is anything to learn from this, would be interesting to know what I should be looking at, oh and how to control the scrolling 🙂
Cheers Alex
4. Januar 2016 at 0:33 #17571Hi noop, , do you think this could be another indication of the wifi dongle
I have just taken your advice
I have restored my touch to factory settings and turned off my main router
I turned on my m2p, then my touch
The touch found the ssid (max2play) and for the first time asked for a password
I entered the correct password, but it couldn’t connect and said it was the wrong password OR network issuesSo I repeated the above, same thing happened
So my gut feeling is, is this connecting, it must be because it’s ssid can be seen, so is it dropping out at some point?
Is this possible, what do you think noop4. Januar 2016 at 0:00 #17570Hi noop
Yep good point about the local network, I did switch it off several times , but not so today and it didn’t make any difference sadly
That said, if I go to settings/wifi on my iPhone that doesn’t see the connection either, but ipeng does
Well it’s showing the ssid and url, is that odd too?Well this has been epic, sorry I keep saying that, but I can’t help thinking it will get sorted and when it does it will be worth it and all I can say is thanks to people like you putting in the effort
What a pain
Alex3. Januar 2016 at 23:14 #17567Hi noop
Sorry for putting you through this
What I wanted to do was use M2P in my car, connected to a 2tb ext hard drive, controlled via an access point with ipeng or the LMS app
So the server deals with the music files, the wifi, does the connection between my iPhone and server, the player plays the music to the USB then to a d-a USB to the aux of my radio
I have the following modules installed
Server
Wifi
Access point
Raspberry pi
Audio player
Xbmc
Start
And I hope all working
Ok so that’s the aim and set up I haveUnwired ipeng does see the wifi at the address where you said, 192.168.189.1.9000 and the ssid which is the default max2play
But that’s it
If I put this in my browsers, it times out and does not connectIt only works when it’s hard wired for some unknown reason
Hence why I think there is potentially still a wifi issue, but that’s a guess from someone is not very savvy in this areaI just hope after all this is not an issue with the driver, ie me 🙂

3. Januar 2016 at 21:14 #17563Hi Noop
Just checked, The server is running , and obviously I can only check this with my pc via the gui when wired
When I disconnect it the router from it ( unwired) it just hangs.it being my iPhone
Although I can see the url through ipeng, which was or is just how you said it was with the correct url details
But It all seems to work fine when it’s wired, well for the touch, not for the iPhone
Then not wired, nothing works. AlSo the LMS on the server I guess has to be working ( because it works wired) which leads me to feel maybe there’s part of the accesspoint that’s not quite right as it seems to be that side of things that’s failing
I really also appreciate you’re working blind, and you’ve helped lots so far and have taken this up a notch so thanks.
Maybe for now this is as far as we can go, but it’s all good and I’m hopeful with another dongle things will change for the better.Alex
3. Januar 2016 at 13:04 #17538Hi noop
Guess what !!!!
Great news, you’ve done it
Its the same as yours ????????????????????????
BUT…………………….
Only when I hard wire it to my router as I can’t get into the setting (GUI) unless its hard wired, well it won’t let me in if I try doing it wirelessly
So I fired up ipeng and tried to see what was happening there.
ipeng saw my URL, but it was not coming up with a Mac address (using wireless).
Then I checked in my settings/wifi on my iphone and still could’nt see it there. So I connected the M2P back up to my router and sure enough the Mac address appeared, which kinda is like was I was saying before, but now at least you have proved, and got the wifi dongle working. Another step closer, which feels good to be honest after several months of working on this. I just don’t know why I keep hitting brick walls
Anyhow, I thought every Pi/PC etc had a mac address, so why should it not be there when its wireless but it is when hardwired. Odd
And I did compare the mac address issue with my squeezplug I’m running, that has both the URL and Mac, which you’d expect ( when hard wired)
Maybe its something in M2P I’ve not ticked, or need to install another plugin ?
And noop, I’m aware this is eating into your time, so if you like, maybe I just get the other dongle then see what happens.
But you have been a really great help, and thanks for your help. But if you do have any ideas I honestly would be very thankful if you could let me know
Thanks Noop
Alex2. Januar 2016 at 11:02 #17529Hi noop
I have just reloaded the accesspoint plugin
It’s asking me to reboot so I didAt this point I dropped out to the command prompt and started entering the above commands as they are above
All looked like it went well with no errorsThen I rebooted again went to my iPhone opened up the settings wifi to see if I could see this new network, unfortunately I could’nt.
I tried with ipeng and LMS and I knew they were not going to work and they didn’t .
What I did notice in the M2P shop, they recommend a edimax dongle.
So as I think this script has been installed ok, and as it mentions edimax, if I order an edimax 7811, do you think that will work as I would be happy to pay the £10 to end this 3 months of stress,Noop, did you have any problems setting your accesspoint , well if you have one?
But after saying this it’s possible I have totally misunderstood your instructions and I have loaded the new script at the wrong time / point
I can uninstall it and try again if that’s so.
Just another point, I did’t alter or add to the boxes in the accesspoint set up at any point until after the 2nd reboot so after entering the SSID, PASSPHRASE AND TICKING the standalone box , rebooted again by disconnecting the power) and again it failed to work sadly
30 mins on I have just stopped writing to uninstall the accesspoint plug in and reinstall and to no avail
Maybe I’ve just loaded the script at the wrong point, here’s hoping
But thanks for all your help, if you think a new dongle would be the best path to go down no problem

1. Januar 2016 at 20:21 #17525Hi Noop
now back (early) and I did try what you said and sadly it’s still not working
I will tell you what I did.
I reformatted the SD card, then installed all the plug-in’s until I got to the access point (AP) plug in.
I went to the AP set up page and hit the install button. This eventually brought up the SSID, Passphrase and standalone options
I then dropped out of that to the Pi command prompt and put in the above. I did have a couple of goes at this as it was’nt liking it. But it did all go smoothly
My only worry was I hope this was the right point in the proceedings to do this ?
But Should I have filled in the sssid etc saved it THEN put this (above in) ?
Anyhow, once this was inputted at the command prompt I then went back to M2P GUI page and rebooted it, and just to make double sure, I then disconnected the power and did a major reboot
But sadly, still no accesspoint working.
I have since ran the ifconf and lsusb commands and it all seems to be functioning. Well I looked on the web to see if I was getting what I’m suppose to get and it seems like I am.
so I’m still hoping for a miracle..
hope this makes sense
Alex31. Dezember 2015 at 12:50 #17522Thanks for the encouragement noop,
I’ve never done a job like this before so minor but has taken so long
But I really do appreciate your helpIt’s New Year’s Eve and sadly I have to go to relatives and just leaving now and will be away for a couple of days so I’ll not be able to try this now, but I will, can’t wait actually
So thanks again noop really appreciate it
Happy new year to you

When I access the GUI page when the Pi is hard wired into the lan it has a different IP address than it has when I access it via the wifi.I know this happens as a fact, but if I say load the access point plugin while wired, then disconnect it from lan and access this via the wifi, I am right in thinking they are different ip’s but looking at exactly the same thing ?
I’m 100% sure I’m right but it’s been such a pain this that I’m starting to question my sanity with this project, this being one example
Thanks Alex30. Dezember 2015 at 20:11 #17519Hi noop,
Thanks again for your help
Programming isn’t my forte but I will give it a go IF I can understand what you mean, it’s me that’s the problem being unable to understand this level of programming which I guess to you is quite lowOk can I clarify what I think you mean
I’m going to wipe my SD just to make sure, now this is what I’m getting really good at!!!
When I’ve done that I will load the all the plugin’s I need the last one will be the access point
Now this is what I think you mean, I load up the access point plug in and save itThen do I enter the above at the point where I have logged into the Pi, which I think Is the command line shell prompt, Is this right or am I talking rubbish….
Or do I enter this the boot/config.txt…
Sorry noop but my knowledge even having worked on this for must be over 300 hours now, is still limited
very very very frustrating and very very soul distroying but I am always thankful for ANY help anyone can give
Thanks
