Here’s something to try…using your previous recipe modified…to help debug the issue.

    1. Burn a new image.
    2. Expand it.
    3. Update M2P.
    4. Increase the USB current via the raspberry plug in (not really necessary yet)
    5. Plug in the wifi dongle.
    6. install wifi.
    7. install access-point.
    8. remove power and then remove all connections, except wifi dongle, then apply power.

Wait a few minutes for the PI to boot then test the access point functionally:
    1. on your IOS device, set-up -> wifi should show an available network with SSID “max2play” (or whatever you set it to)
    2. Try to connect to this network, if you get an error, “forget” the network, and re-try (you will prompted for password in this case).
    3. If connected, on the IOS device use safari or chrome and browse the PI at: http://192.168.189.1/ , you should see the max2play page.

If you see the web page then access point is successfully installed.

when you install accesspoint… in the log at the bottom you should see a line

Change hostapd-Binary to Edimax RTL8188CUS Chipset

if it detects the Edimax dongle

Hi noop, just about to start that, wifi is loading at the moment
Do you mean “ you should see a line“ ?

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:28 #17769

yes you „should see a line“

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:30 #17771

Great git it, it’s just loading now

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:36 #17772

This is a bit worrying, it started to d/l then the page just cleared, so I hit the back button and it’s now hot the red revolving circle as though it’s downloading, but it’s taking a bit of time

I’m going to stop it and see if it’s loaded in the background somehow

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:37 #17773

    Now loaded again ok,

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:37 #17774

Now installing, God hope this works 🙂

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:43 #17775

    Ok noop, it’s loaded
Because I’m extremely nervous about this next bit, I’m going to clear this with you first as it’s this AP that’s the issue.

It says I need to reboot, do I first tick standalone
And when should I see that line you mentioned after reboot as I don’t see it yet albeit it says accesspoint is live and active, but it’s said it every time I have got to this stage, hence my concern

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:45 #17776

Shall I unplug as before and reboot, taking off everything except the dongle ?

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:47 #17777

    don’t click stand-alone….

you should see that message now! buried in the log of messages that flashed by (At least I expect that)

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:51 #17778

Noop, yes got it it’s there!!

Sorry too hasty missed it first time round
Just like you described right ready for a reboot, this standalone box, should I tick this before reboot ?

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:52 #17779

And there is a save button, is there an order I should do this .

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:52 #17780

no do not click stand-alone for now

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:54 #17781

you should not need to save….that is for changing the SSID or passcode or Standalone later
although doing it should not matter

    11. Januar 2016 at 23:58 #17782

    Hi noop,

Have to say I’m not surprised it’s not working OMG, what a pain

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:00 #17783

Maybe in the coming days I fire up my other Pi , who knows there could be some memory corruption and it only comes to light with certain commands , ie in crertain places of memory

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:01 #17784

hahah I am surprised. I thought it would work at this point.

at the bottom of the accesspoint page do you see the Accesspoint runnning info.

What does that say? copy those two lines here.

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:03 #17785

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:04 #17786

i also used another image burner this time, just for the record,

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:14 #17789

and yes my wifi has been turned on with all the devices I have used to check the Pi dongle, I’m only saying that because thats just about the last option surely.

Its mighty odd though, even to me with my little knowledge

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:16 #17790

I cannot believe it not working…..like before the process is running…

    sudo iwconfig

for this command what is it reporting for mode?

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:18 #17791

    tell you what noop

I can’t ask for anymore of your time, you have been just fantasic, you really have and I’m very very very grateful , I have even learned something too.

Do you think it’s worth me starting from scratch

I’ll buy a new pi, dongle and download a new image over the next week

Maybe that might help.Because don’t you feel there is something not quite right going on, its all working but not, so very odd

    12. Januar 2016 at 0:19 #17792
