    Hi There,
Kodi isn’t starting anymore after the 15.1 update with the Pi B with wolfson soundcard, LMS and Squeezelite running.
I try to start Kodi from the website but the service is not starting:

Kodi / XBMC – Status, Start & Stop
Versucht zu starten … Erfolgreich mit ID 4795
Status: Kodi / XBMC läuft nicht

I have tried the same update with the Pi B+ without Wolfson and LMS (Only Squeezelite running) and Kodi isn’t starting either.
It is the 2.25 version of max2play wihtout any changes.(apart from expanding the SD-card and wifi settings).

Has anyone the same problem? Or knows how to fix it?

I have the last max2play version with hifiberry and last updates.

I retry to add the PVR kodi 15 addon repository but still no zip is added in the mentioned directory (opt/max2play/cache)

I would like the Kodi 15.2 isengard with the pvr addons.

    Thanx in advance,

    Hi dutchronnie,
We’re sorry you are experiencing difficulties with Kodi. It should work out of the box right. If you had a failed attempt at updating, please try burning a fresh image since this can mess with the image’s integrity.
Please also try out video playback with the youtube-addon and other common files to rule out the incompatibility of your files. There is already an extensive thread on problems with Kodi video playback (https://www.max2play.com/forums/topic/kodi-no-video-playback/).
Regarding the update, we currently only support the version 15.1 and recommend updating through our webinterface.

    Hello,

I am a user from squeezeplug for almost 3 years and a user of XBMC, now Kodi.
I alway had 2 pi’s for this, then i saw Max2play, logitechmediaserver and kodi on 1 image.

    So i have installed everything.
    Squeezeplug is working well.
But i have troubles to playback video on kodi.
When i play video the screen stays black, but the soud is played.
Does somebody have the same problems.

All the video’s are well played in Xbian Kodi, als have a mpeg license so that is not the problem.
And i am not able to update to the latest kodi 15.2

    max2play is installed an a raspberry Pi 2 B+

    Hi Dejan,

    Hi karoshi,
Sorry for your issues. We are looking into it and it seems like the problem is that Kodi recognizes the Digi as an analog output. We will try to find a fix for this to put in a later update. Right now, we would recommend using the HDMI output since it also puts out the same signal the Digi does. If you want you can also of course try and implement the fix from your link, but that should be a demanding task. For Kodi, HDMI should be the perfect solution.

    Hi,

im an user of kodi on pi2. Til yesterday im am using kodi 16 beta openelec builds. These builds made it possible to play 3d mvc files and isos by my omv mediaserver.

Today i have bougt the full licence of max2play because i want the pi2 as logitechmediaserver and player for music with media files by an extern 2,5 inch hdd instead of playing the music starting the big omv server with several 4 TB Hdd.

But an problem occurs with the kodi version you have integrated in max2play. After updating to latest max2play beta version kodi shows 15.1 as his own version. And here it is impossible to see an option for activating 3d mvc. Please update your kodi version to 15.2 or even better for the customers who like kodi beta versions to 16 alpha.

    Kind Regards

    Gerald Paul

Yes, I suppose that CEC fix is not related with media playback. But since I updated to new kodi version, movies from HDD or Pendrive (different bitrates) stops or freezes the raspberry. Same happens with online content.

    Hi malohm,
We now have the capacity to update to Kodi 15. When your version of Max2Play is up to date (version 2.24) you can see in the Kodi-menu under the option start installation an URL for update (http://steinerdatenbank.de/software/kodi-15.tar.gz). Just click the „start installation“-button and your version of Kodi will be updated.

    Hi everyone,

I have a question relating to audio output on Kodi.

I have a Raspberry Pi2 and HifiBerry Digi+. I am using the Max2Play HiFiBerry Image (Raspberry PI). I will be using this Pi for watching movies.

In the Kodi System Settings if I select the „Enable Passthrough“ option it is greyed out to „PI: HDMI“. I would like to change the passthrough to the HifiBerry soundcard but I can’t.

This person has a similar issue on a Hifiberry but is NOT using Max2play:
    http://support.hifiberry.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/201845791-Kodi-no-passthrough

There is a patch but I don’t know if installing this will mess with the Max2Play installation or future Max2Play updates.

Ideally I would like to output audio to both HDMI and also to the HifiBerry Digi+. But I believe this is a totally separate issue and may not be possible. The reason I want to do this is sometimes i want to listen to audio via my TV (HDMI) and sometimes via surround sound (via my HiFiBerry Digi Soundcard).

However as a first step if I can get the enable passthrough set to the HiFiBerry Digi I would be really happy.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks so much!

    Hi

I reinstall jivelite and select correct soundcard from audioplayer settings page and now everything is running fine.
Touchscreen is working well using fingers and music plays perfectly through speakers 😉
I only got an error popup from xfce but it disappears when jivelite is loaded.

Manni: fyi, I run on raspi2 with DAC+ pro. I installed max2play iso v212, expanded filesystem and updated max2play after install.
Then i added all needed plugins (jivelite, rpidisplay) and disable other uneeded (kodi, squeezeboxserver, wifi/lan).

We are looking into it, it might be a problem with the Kodi version itself on M2P. If so, we will fix this in an update and inform you. In the meantime, if you are missing the CEC support, we recommend temporarily reverting back to Kodi 14.

    No problem Cowonaut !!

    For my setup :

Raspberry PI model B, no overclock, standard
    Max2Play : m2p_rpi_2.22.img.zip Update to 2.24

    Premium account paid !
    Plugins : Start
    AudioPlayer
    Settings / Reboot
    WiFi / Lan
    Filesystem Mount
    SqueezeBox Server
    Kodi / XBMC
    Raspberry Settings
    SD Card Write Protection

    Sudo apt-get update –> Done
    Sudo apt-get upgrade –> Done
    Expand filesystem –> Done
    SqueezeBox Server installation –> Done
Forced output audio to headphones jack –> Done

And I just read that it’s not do the tricks 🙁 I cannot have it with squeezebox server enabled on the same, just the reader. it’s a little bit mad…

It can be cool if the boot filesystem will be on a different partition and all plugins work on other partition. Then we can write protect the boot partition but not the other one !

    Thanks

Hi. I have a Raspberry 2 and upgraded max2play and kodi from webui. With kodi 15.1, my TV remote is not recognized, but with 14 works fine.
I have tried reinstalling old image to sd card and update again, but no luck.
    Thanks in advance.
Edited: Tried with a fresh install of Hifiberry image and it has the same issue. In Kodi, under System settings, Peripherals option is greyed out.

    hey guys.

@ xardas: nice to hear 🙂 what worked for you precisely? which part of this thread?

@ flysurfer: my pleasure 🙂 M2P is awesome, you do a great job. i’m feeling like a beta-tester^^ but the the best part is the following: you are located in Leipzig, Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße right? So we are neigbours =D

testet it with a fresh image v2.22
    -updated to 2.23, reboot
    -updated kodi, reboot
    -updated to beta, reboot
    -installed RPi PVR repository, reboot
    -started kodi

    Only neccesary settings were set.

can’t install any of the PVR-addons including demo plugin. i’m getting always a „installation failed“
i varied the updated process as described before (p.e. tried to update kodi in beta) and testet it a view times. no success.

    good news:
mananged it to install the xstream plugin. was my fault.

    Hi,

I recreated a repository for the Raspberry Pi now, as some addons did not work when using the repository with the ODROID builds.
Now all you need to do, is a Update to latest Beta and then you will find the „PVR-Addons for Raspberry Pi“ installer on the Kodi tab of the web interface. With this repository it should work (got at least no DLL-Error when testing). Make sure to remove the the ODROID Repository and uninstall the addons before trying the new repository.

Thanks for your feedback and ongoing testing!

ok, had time to test again.

installed the now offical m2p v2.23 image.
    updated kodi
    updated pvr addons
    started

The demo pvr client starts without any problems. but PVR IPTV simple client does net start.
It says „Add-on couldn’t be loaded. An unknown error has occured. Can’t load Dll“

Where can i find the logfile?

    ok that’s weird.
    Steps i did:
    – burnt the Image on MicroSD –> so i used a fresh M2P-Installation
    – changed IP to static, changed network-name, registered to M2P, expanded the image
    – updated to beta (affirmated by hint on webinterface that i am using a beta version)
    – updated Kodi and started to make sure kodi 15 is running
    – added pvr-repository
    – started kodi to test

I will do the steps again, without changing IP and stuff and without starting kodi before PVR-repository is added.
Maybe this helps. I will report next days.

If the demo plugin does not work – something during your installation went wrong. If you use a current sd-card-image (e.g. Max2Play version 2.22) and follow the points I wrote above, it should work (just tested it again to make sure it really does).

IMPORTANT: as this is still in BETA-Mode you MUST update Max2Play to the current Beta before doing the update on Kodi (click on Beta Update on Settings Page!).

    #16354

    Hi MvD42,

the Raspberry did not have the support for the PVR-Addons from our Max2Play-builds yet … until NOW 😉

You may update to the latest Beta of Max2Play on the Settings page in the Web interface and then you have to:
    – install Kodi again even if you already have version 15 (just start the installation on the Kodi-tab of Web interface)
    – install the PVR-Plugins Repository from the Addon installer on the Kodi-tab in Max2Play Web interface, which now also work for the Raspberry
    – activate the desired PVR-Plugin in Kodi: System -> Addons -> Install from Repository (Choose Max2Play Repository)
    – enable Live TV in Settings

This feature will be available in the next Release version 2.23 and is now in Beta testing.

    Hi MvD42,

thanks a lot for the Update and your testing! I also tested some videos and everything is playing fine for me. I discovered no problems with running the Update after playing some videos in the „old“ kodi 14 version. But if kodi is not starting as expected, you may see the Log-File with Debug-Information on the kodi page of the Max2Play web interface (at the bottom of the page) in the next Max2Play Version. The current Beta already has this feature. I will add an update Kodi button to the webinterface for the Raspberry PI based on this version.

    @theangryguy
: what kind of videos did you test (format)? Do you have test files that are linked somewhere? Please try the Youtube-Video Addon for Kodi or files like this http://distribution.bbb3d.renderfarming.net/video/mp4/bbb_sunflower_1080p_30fps_normal.mp4 (more on http://bbb3d.renderfarming.net/download.html) to make sure your setup is OK (power supply, network, access rights, etc.). This videos should play flawless. To update to Kodi 15.1 you may use the shell commands I posted above, but this won’t change much in your case if videos just don’t play. The updater on the Kodi page of the web interface of Max2Play is currently only working with the ODROIDs (U3, XU4, C1), as it is a little more difficult on the Raspberry Pi to update Kodi – but there will be an option in the next release.

    Cheers,
    Stefan

Allright guys, i got it to work using a fresh max2play v2.22 image. (I didn’t start kodi 14 before running the update!):

    step by step:

    – download the max2play image v2.22
    – install it on sd-card
    – start the PI, expand the image using the max2play web-surface
    – do the steps described before written by flysurfer
    ATTENTION STEP 3: „wget http://steinerdatenbank.de/software/kodi-15.tar.gz“
    use „wget steinerdatenbank.de/software/kodi-15.tar.gz“ instead!
    – restart the PI
    – configure kodi as your wishes

Seems like update does not work, when using kodi 14 before (like my first try… )

    greetings

P.S.: I’m using a synology diskstation to store my movies. The PI grabs them via NFS with Gigabit-Lan.

    Dear Forum, dear M2P team,

the concept you have sounded attractive to me, so I thought I would try it out. After 3 hours of fiddling around I am kind of dissapointed:

    – In your newest version (image 2.12), Kodi does not play video
    – after an online update it shows version 2.21 – no change to the kodi video playback issue
    – kodi reports an old version (14.1), so I thought I’ll try to update. On the web interface (http://max2play), an url can be provided to update – when I enter there a kodi update url from the kodi team, an update seems to happen – only to find out that this will result in errors, and kodi will no longer start

I have an rpi 2, connected over hdmi on a tv which display full hd 50hz

I am sorry to say, but this is really frustrating.

Do you have a working m2p version with kodi? Where can I find it? What is the correct procedure to update the shipped kodi version to a newer one?

    #15961

    Hi,

you may try to install a newer Kodi version with this (make sure you have a backup of your SD-card):

    cd /opt
    sudo apt-get remove kodi-bin
    wget http://steinerdatenbank.de/software/kodi-15.tar.gz
    tar -xzf kodi-15.tar.gz
    cd kodi-15
    sudo ./install

If this works, we will provide an update button on the Kodi page of the Max2Play web interface, to make upgrading easier.

The update capability is currently only working on the Max2Play Odroid Images. Sorry for the misunderstanding. When we have implemented Kodi 15.1 for Raspberry Pi, we will announce it.

    #15771

    Hi Alex,

thanks a lot for your detailed report! I finally found the time to test the things you reported. Expanding the SD-card only works without having plugged any other USB-Sticks, SD-Cards or other filesystems as Raymond wrote.

    2. The Squeezeboxserver in 7.8 is not working because of a perl update to version 5.20. The nightly builds do have CPAN-libraries for perl 5.20 and the default 7.8 is missing this one. I built these for earlier perl versions (e.g. 5.18) and added them to Max2Play – but as 7.9 works I didn’t even recognize this is missing.

    3. The mount-options and fixed mount points for your usb hard drive do not work as expected because of a missing newline in /etc/fstab (the „##USERMOUNT“ must be on a new line, but it is not… this is a bug). You may fix this with sed "s/1##USERMOUNT/1\n##USERMOUNT/" /etc/fstab. I also added a patch to the Max2Play-Update-Script to fix this.

    4. Difficult to tell why the hardkernel USB-SPDIF is not working as expected. Maybe it is due to some access rights. You may try: stop and remove Shairport and kodi from Autostart or give Shairport and kodi another soundcard. Start squeezelite from commandline as user „odroid“ like the script is doing it. You may see which devices are using the sound output as root in a console with /bin/fuser -v /dev/snd/* 2>&1

    5. Kodi – never experienced such issues – but maybe it is connected with the hardkernel USB-SPDIF stick. Sometimes kodi „hangs“ if it has no access to the soundcard.

    6. VNC: The vnc-server tried to open a new display as it couldn’t see the existing one. There was just a small bug in the init script (/etc/init.d/x11vnc) that is fixed now. You just need to get the latest Beta and uninstall -> reinstall the plugin.

To get the BETA-Versions and the updates I just did, you need to do a „Update to latest Beta“ on the Settings page. This is only available if you have the premium license. The changes will also be in the next release (probably within 2 weeks).

Hope I could help you a little with your questions! I will create a new Image for the XU4 (with all fixes), that comes with the latest Max2Play-version soon.

    Cheers,
    Stefan
